What Type of Hose Can Be Used for CO2 Transfer – The Evolution

In the earlier times, the hoses manufactured with rubber were designed for hydraulic uses. However, when these hoses were exposed to carbon dioxide, they could not resist deterioration. On inspecting the reason, it was found that there were reinforcing braids and fittings made from carbon steel, which is susceptible to corrosion from the carbonic acid that is formed from a combination of CO2 and moisture. This resulted in developing cracks in the hoses due to cold temperatures associated with the CO2 transfer.

Some time later, stainless steel hoses were introduced. This attempt was better than the previous ones in remaining flexible in the cold but lead to much harder and heavier hoses. Additionally, the corrugation inside the metal hose could trap solid CO2 ice, interrupting the CO2 transfer.

The latest innovation was Polar Hoses, which were specifically built for bulk CO2 transfer. The elastomer used in the manufacturing of these hoses was found to be perfectly compatible with CO2 and low temperatures. This CO2 hose has stainless steel braids and corrosive fittings that offer them durability and strength. Polar hoses are light-weight, flexible and strong pipes, proving to be the best for bulk CO2 transfer.

JTC Valve Sales houses polar hoses that are tested to 675 psig. We offer polar hoses that have corrosion resistant brass end fitting with aluminium crimp collar. Know More about Inertrol Outfit for McGraw Edison Transformer

McGraw Edison Transformer has a history. Max McGrow found a company – ‘McGrow Electric’, which was in the business of installing electricity in houses. Gradually, they expanded to industrial & commercial buildings and through the years, grew into a manufacturer of electrical products. McGrow Edison Co. was established in 1957, when McGrow Electric Company acquired Thomas A. Edison. Out of the many electric components manufactured by the company is the McGrow Edison Transformer. Here, we are going to know the details of the Inertrol Outfit that is used in the making of the transformer.

The Inertrol Outfit is an important part of the McGrow Edison Transformer. The Inertrol outfits are 3-stage nitrogen regulators that are designed to maintain oil-filled transformer atmospheres at 0.5 PSIG. Every inertrol outfit consists of a two-stage regulator that is connected in series to a highly sensitive single-stage regulator, which maintains the pressure. A built-in third stage regulator provides protection against over-pressurization of the system. Some of the inertrol outfits have an alarm switch that notifies a customer equipped warning device if the cylinder drops below 300 PSIG.

Key Features of the Inertrol Outfit for McGrow Edison Transformer:

  • Heavy-duty aluminium & brass construction offers durability and resists corrosion.
  • Pressure adjusting screw helps protect against any tampering by unauthorized professionals.
  • Offers maximum inlet pressure of 3000 PSIG.

A special by-pass valve allows for quick filling of the transformer (4289 series).
Large diameter diaphragm in the third stage regulator provides precise control of the gas flow.

A Deeper Analysis Of Diaphragm Master Valves

Diaphragm valves are pressure responsive elements that transmit force leading to opening, closing or controlling a valve. They are extremely clean with an easy maintenance and offer tight shutoff feature along with a leak-proof seal.

How do they control the flow?

A flexible diaphragm is connected to a compressor by a stud that is molded into a diaphragm. The diaphragm is pushed into contact with the bottom of the valve body to provide shut off instead of pinching the line closer. Starting or stopping applications is done by turning the hand wheel until the compressor lifts the bottom or pushes the diaphragm against the bottom of the valve body to stop flow.

How does it function?

Connect the diaphragm to a compressor by a stud molded into the diaphragm. When the compressor is moved up, the flow starts and can be increased. While to stop or slow down the process, the compressor is lowered. These diaphragm valves are best suited for controlling the flow of fluids containing suspended solids and offer flexibility of installation in any position. Throttling is better with weir-type diaphragm valves than with straight valves due to the design’s large shutoff area along the seat. The diaphragm performs the role of a gasket of the valve to seal against leaks between the bod and bonnet cap.

Where is the diaphragm valve used?

These valves are best suited for handling fibrous slurries, corrosive fluids, radioactive fluids and other fluids that are not contaminated. The best thing about diaphragms is that they are not exposed to the media and can be used with viscous or sticky fluids.

What are its components?

The construction of a diaphragm valve consists of a body and an actuator.
  • Diaphragm body is made of a stem, bonnet and a compressor. The stem can be indicating or non-indicating and does not rotate. The diaphragm valve bonnets are lever-operated and quick opening and can be interchanged with standard bonnets on the conventional weir-type bodies. You can open or close the diaphragm with a 90° turn of the lever. Operations of the diaphragms are performed by a compressor that is located above the diaphragm and below the handwheel stem.
  • The valve actuator performs an operation of the stem and disc to open or close the valve. There are several types of actuators like manually operated, electric motor, pneumatic, hydraulic and thermal actuators. You can select an actuator which gives you the expected output power to ensure high degree sealing and valve opening.
What are diaphragms made of?

The bodies of diaphragms can be made of materials such as solid plastic, plastic lined, glass lined, rubber lined solid metals and alloys.

You can use the diaphragm valves to connect into a variety of piping systems. But be sure of the pre-existing system requirements and the type of seal desired.

Testing Automatic Changeover Regulators for Twin DOT Cylinder Applications

MP2523HP Series

Automatic changeover regulators save us from the hassle of running out of gas. The loss of time, energy and repute and inconvenience due to stoppage of gas supply is unexplainable. The changeover regulators are responsible for continuous supply of gas and are designed especially for use in systems where a reserve cylinder is attached.

As for any industrial equipment, the automatic changeover regulators must be tested before application to prevent irrecoverable damages. Here are steps to guide you through the testing process:

  • Firstly, rotate the cylinder selector lever fully towards one of the cylinders. This is your service cylinder. The other cylinder will act as a reserve cylinder. Ensure that both the cylinders are filled with gas; refill if necessary.
  • On turning both cylinder valves fully, wait till you notice the sight indicator turns green.
  • Ignite two or three cooktop burners to create a load on the pressure regulator and take note of the visible flame structure. (Avoid using the water heater or the furnace)
  • Close the service cylinder valve fully to simulate running out of gas situation. Now, observe the sight indicator. It should turn red. Make sure that the ignited cooktop burners look exactly as before.
  • Now, rotate the cylinder selector lever fully towards the reserve cylinder and observe the sight indicator to show green.
  • Disconnect the pigtail from the service cylinder and ensure that no fuel is emitted from the pigtail.
  • Now, reconnect it to the service cylinder & open its service valve fully.
  • Repeat the complete process, beginning with the reserve cylinder this time.
  • If both the cylinders respond as above, your automatic changeover regulator is working normally. If you notice gas leaking out of a disconnected pigtail or the burner flames are extinguished at any time during this test, you will need to troubleshoot.

If you are looking for quality regulators, JTC Valve Sales is your place. We stock only high quality products to ensure our products don’t cause any damage to our clients. Visit our website for more details.

Safe Handling of Acetylene Cylinders To Avoid Potential Hazards

Acetylene Valves

Acetylene is inherently a safe gas and is an invaluable commodity for the industry. Being a highly flexible gas, acetylene is used in many industrial processes. It is known to an irreplaceable for oxyfuel gas welding and cutting. It features high versatility and functionality with also being hazardous if not handled with care. However, the acetylene cylinders have a different design from most other gas cylinders and the gas reacts differently when exposed to fire.

Safeguarded by acetylene cylinder valves, the acetylene cylinders consist of a steel shell comprising a porous mass which in combination with liquid acetone dissolves the gas. Decomposition of acetylene is triggered by heat, leaving the cylinder in an unstable, hazardous condition and can also lead to explosion.

Due to the special potential for a delayed action rupture with acetylene cylinders, observing certain safety measures to minimize the risk and level of destruction.

Tips to handle acetylene gas cylinders:
  • The alarm should be sounded and area evacuated in case of any event of an incident.
  • Train the user appropriately before letting him use Oxyfuel gas equipment.
  • Fit non-return acetylene valves on the torch
  • Check for any leaks prior to lighting up
  • Prefer to ignite the fuel gas equipment before introducing the oxygen stream with the nozzle pointing upwards
  • During transport, ensure that the vehicle is properly ventilated and there are appropriate restraints to save the gas filled cylinders from exploding
  • After being transported, the acetylene cylinders must be left to settle in an upright position so that the liquid acetone returns to its normal position in the porous mass
  • Always use a flashback arrestor while using acetylene cylinders
  • Never open the acetylene cylinder valves more than one and a half turns as it can be closed easily in case of an emergency
We, at JTC Valve Sales, understand the strict industry specifications and only sell products which comply with the highest quality standards & undergo a thorough automated testing process. You can place an order for all your valve requirements with us as we stock almost all of them.

For your safety, JTC Valve Sales offers products manufactured in the USA by Sherwood and Rego, who are trusted for their adherence to quality standards.
